Meeting 26 May 2009

Notes

Present:

  • Joan Fisher (JF)
  • Raymond Moir (RM)
  • Stephen Vickers (SV)

1.  Apologies

Apologies were received from Simon Booth (SiB), Steve Boulton, Theresa Duffy and Stephen Bruce.

2. Arrangements for the next event (12 June)

Funding from Blackboard and txttools should cover most of the costs.  Arrangements for the roundtable session still to be finalised.  Each corner should relate to an aspect of the decision to move to Learn 9.  Proposed the following “corners” to be coordinated as follows:

  • functionality: Susi Peacock (SP)
  • staff training: Raymond Moir
  • infrastructure: Stephen Vickers
  • other choices: Joan Fisher
  • support available from Blackboard: Richard Burrows

RM has essential elements under control: venue, food and flipcharts!  It is suggested we advertise a Twitter tag to use for our events: #scotbug proposed.  RM will MC the event and advertise the Twitter tag in the opening formalities.

Actions:
a. Confirm precise date for cut-off of bookings [RM]
b. Proposed coordinators of corners to liaise with an assistant [SP, RM, SV, JF]
c. Make contact with Blackboard about suggestion that they run a corner on the support they are providing [SiB]
d. Feedback sheet [SiB]

3.  Scot-BUG Pronto group

SV suggested creating a Pronto group for Scot-BUG to help maintain contact within the community between events.  No one else at the meeting currently using Pronto (Basic version is free for Blackboard customers).

Actions:
a. Create a Pronto group for the committee as an initial experiment [SV]
b. Ask for feedback on the use of Pronto at the next event [SiB]
c. Determine whether the Pronto group could be coordinated via a Blackboard owned server [SV]

4.  Update on funding

SV is seeking a more regular commitment of funds for Scot-BUG events to help with planning events.

5.  Host for Autumn event

Suggested that we look for a non-HE, Blackboard customer to host the next event.  It was also suggested that we consider running some events and/or presentations between events using an on-line conferencing tool, such as Wimba Classroom or Elluminate.  To be discussed at a future meeting.
