About

Background

Scot-BUG was formed in 2008 to bring together the members of Celtic WebCT User Group and users of the Blackboard Classic product range. It is an informal group for anyone interested in e-learning in tertiary education. Whilst the group’s name reflects is geographical location, it welcomes participation from anywhere. Similarly, whilst the common interest within the group is the use of Blackboard software, it is run independently of the company and seeks to consider these applications in the wider contexts of e-learning and the UK education sector.

The group aims to hold a meeting three times per annum; click on the Next Event link above for details of our next meeting. In addition to this website, a mailing list is also maintained to allow members to be kept informed and share news and information. Follow this link for details on how to subscribe (or unsubscribe) from this list.  There is also an RSS feed to the blog on this site.  If you have any suggestions or ideas for activities please contact one of the organisers (see Committee page), especially if you would like to host one of our meetings.

Aims

The aim of Scot-BUG is to foster a community of those involved in supporting the use of e-learning applications from Blackboard at a tertiary level. Specifically we hope to provide a group which can:

  • share and disseminate good practice in the deployment of Blackboard applications
  • provide mutual support, both technical and pedagogical, including training resources
  • demonstrate opportunities and strategies to use Blackboard applications as a pro-active agent for the support of learning and teaching
  • establish a relationship with Blackboard and their commercial partners to provide feedback to them with the aim of influencing key areas of development to better fit the needs of our community
  • explore general and topical issues in e-learning and how they might relate to Blackboard applications; e.g. accessibility and open source developments
  • a forum for Blackboard to disseminate information to the community
  • establish links with other e-learning user communities to encourage greater sharing of ideas and activities
